Charity Structure

Caister Community Association was established on 15th May 1980 with a constitution first adopted on 17th March 1980. The current Constitution was adopted on 15th April 2010.
It is a Members’ charity established as an “Unincorporated Charitable Association”.
The C.C.A .provides benefit to Caister and West Caister (in the postcode area NR30 5). This is known as the Charity’s “Area of Benefit”.

Charity Premises

The C.C.A. is responsible for the management and upkeep of the Caister Community Centre, which is leased from Caister Parish Council on a long- term lease.
The Charity obtains part of its charitable income through renting out space within the building, which has a number of rooms available.
Caister Social Club, a “not for profit” associated company, operates from the Community Centre renting space from the Charity.

Operational Structure

The Charity is managed by a Board of Trustees, elected annually at the AGM by the members.
The Charity is required to produce its “Report & Accounts” annually to its regulator, the Charity Commission.
The Social Club and Charity, being separate entities have their own Management Committees, AGMs, and are responsible for their own individual operations and accounts, subject to their own regulatory requirements.
The Social Club is the primary funding source for the Charity, to which it pays it's distributable profits annually through a Gift Aid Covenant.

C.C.A. Social Club

Caister Community Association Social Club Limited is managed by the Social Club Committee.
Established on 30th March 1998, it is a Bar Trading Company.
Re-registered in September 2018 as a society under the Co-operative and Community Benefit Societies Act 2014.
It is regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
The Social Club is a non-profit making company, whose distributable profits are passed to the C.C.A. Charity via a Gift Aid Covenant.
The Company operates the Social Club bar under an occupational licence from the Charity within the Caister Community Centre.

Clear Separation

A clear boundary should exist between the operations of the C.C.A. Social Club Ltd and Caister Community Association, the charity.
The Company must not carry out activities which conflict with the Charity's Constitution and Objects.
Whilst the CCA Trustees should not be involved in the Company's day-to-day operations, they can intervene if the Company is acting in a manner which could be detrimental to the Charity.
With a subsidiary company arrangement, it is important there is a good working relationship, as ultimately the Charity could exist without the Company, but the Company cannot exist without the Charity.

Community Room 1

Available at a hire charge of £15.00 per hour

Newly refurbished in 2023, Room 1 is our air conditioned main community space, incorporating its own kitchen and washroom facilities. It is best suited to larger groups of 30-40 people, depending on the activity. Refreshments from the nearby kitchen are available free of charge.

Community Room 2

Available at a hire charge of £12.50 per hour

This is the smaller of our Community Rooms, with access to the disabled toilet facilities off the main corridor and also those situated in the Social Club main bar area. It is best suited to smaller groups, or meetings, of up to 15-20 people.

Function Room

Available at a hire charge of £15.00 per hour

Our comfortable function room is available for hire for a range of activities such as birthday parties, weddings, wakes, meetings, etc. This is our largest room accommodating 100-150 people. Use of the Function Room kitchen is available on request.

For block bookings or repeat sessions we offer an introductory discounted rate of £12.50 per hour (Room 1 & Function Room) £10.00 (Room 2) for the first 4 bookings. Full hire charges apply from session 5.

15 minutes is allowed for set up/clear down time for all groups at no additional charge.

Funding & Community Support Officer

Building upon the current activities and services being provided at Caister Community Centre, and to enable them to be developed further, thereby enhancing the value to Caister Community, the Trustees are seeking a Funding and Community Support Officer. The aim of this role will be to identify and acquire both new funding sources and service guide providers (e.g. DIAL, Age UK etc.) thus developing the overall quality of the Centre for the benefit of all those who use the premises. As the fundraising specialist, you will play a pivotal role to the Board of Trustees in advancing the charity’s objectives, through your expertise in developing and delivering the fundraising strategy.

The role will include:

Providing general advice and guidance regarding grant applications and to work closely with the Trustees team to align grant proposals with annual plans throughout the year
Provide input into the annual planning process with regard to grant funding objectives
Identifying and seeking local and national grant funding opportunities
Completion and submission of the comprehensive grant funding applications
Reporting outcomes of applications to the Trustees
Ensuring that the fundraising activities comply with legal requirements
Identifying a range of preferred support services (and others) including views from the community
Periodic attendance at the Community Coffee Morning on Wednesdays
Developing, arranging and overseeing the programme for support services (and others)
Ensure appropriate promotion of all support services through posters and social media posts on the Charity Facebook page as appropriate, to encourage attendance

The number of hours required may vary from time to time and will be subject to discussion, the role can be delivered with a mixture of attendance at the Centre and remote working.

Skills Required:

Previous volunteer experience is not essential however fundraising knowledge would be an advantage
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Knowledge and skills to effectively communicate the Charity’s aims and needs and to secure vital funding
Familiarity with budgeting and financial management related to fundraising activities
Working knowledge of Excel, Word, PowerPoint & Email
An ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team

The role provides an opportunity to help a local charity that makes a difference to your community and, through innovation, help provide quality innovative services from the Centre to the community.
Reporting to: C.C.A. Trustees Board.

As with the role of Trustees, this is a voluntary role, to assist with the running of the Centre for the Community. The Charity will reimburse authorised out of pocket expenses incurred on behalf of the Charity.

Notice of the 2026 Annual General Meeting and Election of Trustees

Notice is hereby given of the AGM of the above charity to be held on Thursday 13th June 2024 commencing at 7:30 p.m. at the Caister Community Centre, Beach Road, Caister on Sea, Great Yarmouth, NR30 5ER.

All Members of the Association, as defined in section 4 of the Constitution, and who have paid their membership fee (or renewal fee) such that they are active members will be eligible to attend and vote as detailed in section 4 (which also covers all voting rights).

Voting rights, defined in section 4 of the Constitution are: Members with full voting rights must be over 18, live within the area of benefit, being resident in Caister or West Caister, with an NR305 postcode. In accordance with the Constitution Associate Members, “Affiliated Groups” and the “Statutory Authority” (being Caister Parish Council) are entitled to a single vote to be cast by their named representative, who must have been previously advised in writing to the Association.

Nominees for Trustees must be named and submitted on the appropriate form, with their proposer and seconder, all named must be current Full Members of the Association. All such completed forms must be submitted to the suggestion box in the Community Centre Members’ Bar Room no later than by 6:00 p.m. June 10th.

The Agenda of the AGM includes the Election of the Officers and the Management Committee of the Association and other items as included on the Agenda available at the meeting. All voting will be conducted by a show of hands from those eligible to vote.
